Community Initiatives

We love opportunities to be involved in community projects.

Do you have a community initiative that you are seeking a non-profit partner for?  Please email Kelly Johnson, Executive Director - kelly@nexusbc.ca - to discuss your project.

Here are some of our projects:

2015 Enterprize Challenge

NexusBC is proud to have been a small business mentor in the 2015 Enterprize Challenge hosted by Community Futures North Okanagan and VantageOne Credit Union.  We want to congratulate Bernie and Maylene Ramis for all their hard work which resulted in them winning the top prize!  It was an absolute pleasure supporting these two entrepreneurs, and we wish them incredible success with their new business, Rollin’ Spring Rolls!   Details here: www.vantageone.net/News/Article/EnterpriseChallengeWinner

Self Management British Columbia Program

Coldest Night of the Year  (2014+)

NexusBC fundraising efforts raised $1,360 for the Upper Room Mission.

Non-Profit Workshops (2014)

NexusBC supports local non-profit organizations.  In addition to our sold-out March 2014 workshop on Risk Management and the Criminal Record Review Process for organizations that depend on volunteers, we anticipate delivering more workshops and seminars.

Welcoming Communities Project (2013 - 2014)

NexusBC is aware of many of the issues immigrants face when they move to a new community and is taking an active role in the Welcoming Communities program in Vernon. Welcoming Communities, which is funded by WelcomeBC, is an initiative of the Province of BC and the Federal government to provide a framework for making BC communities more inclusive for new immigrants who have been in Canada for less than 10 years. The Welcoming Communities program goals include supporting intercultural relationships, welcoming and inclusive workplaces, community spaces and improved access to community resources. Our involvement includes a feasibility study on workplace diversity, coupled with a workplace diversity workshop scheduled for Fall 2013.

Work Search Clothing (Summer 2013)

Jobseekers benefited from a room full of new clothing donated by the John Howard Society.  We were happy to provide space and a fitting room.

Responsible Gambling Initiative (2012 - 2013)

Funded by the City of Vernon and the BC Lottery Corporation, we managed a two year Responsible Gambling initiative. This initiative raised awareness in Vernon of responsible gambling practices, and provided information on the services available to support gamblers and their families.  The project was deemed a success by the funders and we received an award of recognition.

GO Award Program (2006 - 2011)

From 2006 to 2011, the GO Award customer service recognition program was managed by NexusBC (formerly NOEES).  This popular program, which began on May 1, 2000 with a ceremony on the steps of Vernon City Hall, was well known in the community and served to promote customer service excellence.
